Skoda has released new details about the 2013 Rapid, ahead of its launch this fall.
Previewed by the MissionL concept, the production model is the first vehicle to use the company's new design language that combines "perfect proportions" with "sharply drawn lines." As such, the car has a prominent grille, sculpted doors and an attractive rear end. Overall, the model measures 4,483mm long, 1,706mm wide and 1,461mm tall with a wheelbase that spans 2,602mm.
The cabin is relatively sparse, but features a clean design and numerous storage compartments. Since the car was designed with families in mind, it has best-in-class head and knee room as well as a cargo capacity of 550 liters (19.4 cubic feet) which can be expanded to 1,490 liters (52.6 cubic feet) when the rear seats are folded down. Three trim levels will be available and higher-end models can be equipped with heated seats, air conditioning and an infotainment system with GPS navigation.
Under the hood, a variety of engines will be available including:
A 1.6-liter TDI with outputs of 90 PS (66 kW / 88 hp) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) as well as 105 PS (77 kW / 103 hp) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque.
A 1.2-liter MPI with 75 PS (55 kW / 74 hp) and 112 Nm (83 lb-ft) of torque.
A turbocharged 1.2-liter TSI with outputs of 86 PS (63 kW / 84 hp) and 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) as well as 105 PS (77 kW / 103 hp) and 175 Nm (129 lb-ft) of torque.
A turbocharged 1.4-liter TSI with 122 PS (90 kW / 121 hp) and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque.
Depending on which engine is selected, it can be paired to a five-speed manual, a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG transmission.
