A couple of weeks ago Toyota rang us up and asked if we'd like to come down and drift around its rather excellent GT86 for a day. To sweeten the deal, they'd supply loads of tyres, tea and coffee, and the original Drift King, Keiichi Tsuchiya, to compete against. No pressure then.
But there was a catch. Our impending failure had to be recorded in full HD for the world to see.
The challenge was to go against Keiichi Tsuchiya at barrel drifting. This is a cross between drag racing and drifting that relies on driver skill rather than horsepower. As you can see from the video, Keiichi is quite good at it, but so was Ollie. So much so that he beat him, and is now officially known as "the professor".
